1. The Gear Page is run by musicians for musicians. We listen, we learn and if we misstep we are not afraid to do the right thing. We proposed some changes to the Emporiums. Based on feedback from members, we have decided to not go ahead with those changes. However, it has also highlighted that we need some community input into what is working and what is not working for members here. Primarily focused on the Emporiums, we'd like input on your thoughts about TGP and how things work in the Emporiums for you and how you'd improve them. The discussion thread on the is here!

Getting some tubes from the blessed Lord Valve.

What are your opinions of the JJEL34's?

Alternate opnions have to be reasonably priced tubes. Ixnay on the NOS-ray.

Try JJ E34L`s if you like new production. Better then JJel34`s IMHO.

Also, JJ KT-77's are a great choice!

Excellent alternates are SED EL34s and Groove Tubes EL34Ms (Mullard Reissues). "Walk with the Lord".

+1 on the Winged "C"s. I've used them in a range of amps over the years.

I'm impressed with the latest Shuguang EL-34B's and at $44.00 a quad it's worth a try.

Tubes and tone are so subjective....... I have tried SED's many times in many amps, just can't warm up to them, not enough balls and the general tone is thin. I much prefer JJ EL34L's and KT 77's for new stockers.

You're right, tone is VERY subjective and you can't necessarily isolate one variable from the other 10. Speakers, pickups, amps, etc, will all behave differently when you change any of the other variables.

To some of my customers, the JJ "KT 77s" sound like cardboard. Totally lifeless.

For my Rivera M60, winged Cs were by far the best choice. For my Allen class Act II, the Svetlana and Chinese EL34s couldn't be beat. JJs didn't cut it in these amps. All of my remaining amps use JJ 6l6s and el84s, so I am a fan of JJ, but so far have not enjoyed their el34 tubes.

I've been really impressed with the stock EH EL34's in my Carr Hammerhead head, likewise with the JJ 6L6's in my Fargen (also stock).

Hmm. Going into an Egnater MOD50. So many choices.

Love the KT77, best for high gainish amps though, although it did make a dramatic difference in a UniValve. My hifi customers have dumped EL34's forever.

The Hammerhead is a gainy amp, maybe that's why I like the KT77 so much, it's a good combo!
