40 custom shop amps. They're also going to make a production version. The custom shop version is non-master volume.

The production version will be PCB and master volume. Rumor is the master volume will be footswitch bypassable. Rumor is also that it will be made in Asia somewhere to bring costs down.

The top one is the production version.... notice the addition of the MV. The third one down is the custom shop.

The last pic is the back of a custom shop model... note the serial number.

    Doesn't look anything like my pix-only OR80.

geez, where do i sign up?
i dig my retro 50 and i'm guessing that the 40th anniversary will be equally (if not greater) as cool.

i was kinda confused by that press release.
got the impression that they were both Custom Shop, but one was more limited (40 peices).
    is this correct?
If one goes into regular production (for a reasonable price), than I may just be looking at my next amp.

Yeah... no FAC and wrong tone stack. Plus the actual look, but I won't get into that. Atleast they'll be making something that's somewhat reminiscent of old school Oranges.

Only the one marked Custom Shop is a custom shop amp. The regular OD50 will be a production version.

FWIW, the custom shop retro 50 really nailed (nails? i keep on hearing conflicting stories as t whether the amp is still in production, or not) the vibe of the vintage orange amps.

Rather than a serial number every model will instead have a different girls name and come with it's own certificate and circuit documentation to create 40 distinctive and highly sort after amps.

    hmmm......sounds vaguely familiar.

    no master volume...
my money is on that they will be even cooler than the already schweet retro 50.

    depending...
and that's a very big depending, i might have a retro 50 w/ power scaling instead of the master volume for sale. pristine shape and ready to roar!!!

waiting to hear back from the wee orange men...

What I've pieced together is that you can still order a Retro 50 from the custom shop, but you have to wait for it. What I'm guessing is that they're not going to pre-build and ship them out to retailers anymore.

i bought mine from a dealer for a song.
it had been sitting around for over a year w/ little interest from anybody. funny thing was, it was (and by a pretty significant margin) the coolest amp they had in the store. made the mars hall 1959HW sound dull and constricted. the retro 50 is hugely touch sensitive, by comparison. the only thing i can think of is that the amp may have been too touch sensitive for a lot of folks and didn't have that super high gain thing that most players in that store seemed to favour.
    their loss is my gain.
    har, har, har!!!
