OS Mavericks

Since Apogee has drivers that work and all my DAW stuff plays nice. I upgraded.

So far, a few minor quicks but smooth sailing. My 10.6.8 was corrupt and I put a new HD in and added RAM ( which made it worse.) The new OS is using my resources properly now~

Now everything is purring!

Anyone else jumped?

I'm using Mavericks too for Pro Tools 11 and everything is working great. Biggest plus for me is the new way "Spaces" works with multiple displays.

I jumped on day 1 b/c I wanted the benefits to LCPX and checking out the new GB.
Early '11 MBP, 2.2GHz i7, 16GB RAM.
Apogee, Cranesong, etc...and lots of plugs.
Did a fresh install to a SSD and then transferred data from my former Mtn. Lion bootdisk.

Overall I like it.
For writing/recording/editing/mixing I have no complaints.
All my plugs worked, only had to re-verify some licenses which was easy.
Love the new 2nd screen/Airplay controls.
Hate, hate, hate iBooks and the new Podcasts app. Both do not really benefit from iCloud connectivity from my experience.

I've had a couple of curious "under the hood" issues with Mavericks.
Every couple of weeks I'm verifying/repairing disk permissions because of something acting odd.
A good example is Finder not working. You click on the icon and nothing happens.
Luckily it's a common problem and the fix is 2min away via Google.

This weekend iTunes started acting strange. It would shutdown within 2 min of launch. Very annoying when I use it to serve video to my AppleTV via home network.
Looked it up online, less cases than other issues, but still found a solution.
Seems that if you have any books (.pdf, epub, etc...) stored in your iTunes library previous to your Mavericks install (which included iBooks) it can cause a conflict when iTunes boots and tries to read it's library.
It seems that iBooks wants to control all docs and gets confused when some are in iTunes that it has no reference to?
So I backed up my library to an external disk then nuked all the books, podcasts, and other non-music or video items in the library.
Restarted the machine, relaunched iTunes and no problems ever since.

How specifically was your OSX 10.6.8 having problems if I might ask ?

I also have OSX 10.6.8 right now ( it was an upgrade itself from whatever OSX I had previously on my Mac Mini ) and I have discovered that although I apparently can still burn CDs... my Mac Mini does not recognize or will it play any CDs or DVDs... whether they are ones I burned or they are regular production CDs or DVDs.

Did you have this problem with your's before you upgraded your OS ?

It *might* not a OSX issue but a drive issue.
My very first MBP was made in '08 and even back on Snow Leopard the SuperDrive had problems reading commercial or home burned cds and dvds.
I searched the Apple help forums and found that a batch of SuperDrives that Apple bought from a manufacturer and used in the '08 MBPs were defective.
Of course it was out of warranty when I discovered it.

My fix?
Eventually the logic board died which meant I had to take it to the Apple Store and have them send it out for repair.
Their bench service fee for parts and labor is $300 so I had them replace the SuperDrive since they were already going to replace the logic board. Came back 5 days later purring like a new machine and has worked great ever since.
