The Mrs and I went to see Eric Johnson last night. My 7 year old was asking about it this morning, so I played her Cliffs of Dover.

During the intro she says "I heard you play that once." Badly, mind you. I'm feeling pretty good. "Hey, I impress my kid!"

We listened all the way through and she says she liked the song. She sat silent for a minute and says:

    "Dad?"

    "Yeah punkin."

    "You should practice more."

    Honest to a fault.

Good to have honest criticism from family. Too often they just blow sunshine. Although my wife can be quite harsh.:D

And you didn't reply "Well I've seen your finger paintings and they could use some work too" :)

I probably would've gone with the old standby, "Oh yeah?!?! Well, my dad can beat up your dad!" :facepalm

Nothing wrong with that. Kids are amazing!
My 6 year old tells me I go off scale all the time. He happens to have perfect pitch, and I am extremely jealous and proud at the same time!

On a side note: Everyone here knows that Eric Johnson is a pentatonic hack. Why did you go see him? :p

They are truth-tellers for sure. My kids have been surrounded by music since they were in utero. Mom's a piano player. The kiddos know when they hear us play something "off."
I almost didn't. Really glad I did. I wish I sucked as bad as he does. :D

Mine too. "Yeah, that was not good."

Side note, the venue Eric played last night is a special one to me. My wife and I were newly dating when she saw me play for the first time on that very stage. She's the one and only girl my guitar playing has actually attracted.

    Hahaha.
    I know what you mean.
However...There was this one lady at a bar gig that seemed like all she really wanted to do was play with my whammy bar. I finally gave her a chance and she wasn’t impressed at all and left. True story.:p

My first thought on this is that she wants to listen to you play more often.

She is such a kindhearted soul, this may actually be it.
