Ovation Pickup?

I have a friend with an Ovation Celebrity from about 20 years ago. Years ago it was loaned to a friend who apparently returned it with the pickup removed(!?). The jack is gone. The volume and tone knobs are housed in a sealed case and the wires coming from that case are not attached to anything. I felt around inside the guitar and couldn't feel anything like a contact piezo pickup. I couldn't find wires coming from the bridge that would indicate it had an under-saddle piezo installed (I wasn't able to loosen the strings to remove the bridge saddle and look under it).

So I guess the pickup really is missing. To be sure it would be helpful to know what kind of pickup this thing had originally and where it was afixed. Anybody know?

Hi Scott:

I'm not familiar with the Celebrity per se, but my Adamas has the OP-24 pre-amp and the piezos under the saddle. TI looked under the saddle inside the guitar and can see the wires coming out.

The celebrity probably has/had a similar system, most likely your has been removedif you can't see any wires.

Maybe something like this:

Loosen the strings and lift out the saddle. Under it should be the pickup. It will look like a shim with a wire dropping through a hole. If all you see is a wood and a hole, then someone removed the pickup.

It can be replaced. Go over to The Ovation fan Club. Those folks can point you in the right direction and/or get you the parts you need.

Thanks for the response. So you're suggesting that this thing definately had an under-saddle pup? There is no wire hanging down inside so I'm guessing that proves the pup is missing. I emailed Ovation tech support and got a response that this thing needed a replacement CP-100C pickup. He didn't say what type of pickup this is. I tried to get information on how to rewire the thing and didn't get an answer., He suggested that, no matter what, I should take it to my local Ovation service person. I guess there's no surprise there.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who can confirm for sure that this thing had an under-saddle piezo and tell me how it should be wired to the volume/tone module.

Agreed.
