My first pedal was an early 80s DOD preamp/overdrive 250 that I foolishly gave away when I got a Boss Distortion DS1. Never had another overdrive until last week when I bought an EXH Soul Food. Man, I love that pedal. So much I decided to order a Wampler Euphoria, which is supposed to be delivered today, but isn't showing as out for delivery yet. I'm already trying to decide what my next one will be. So some questions:

Am I developing a problem? If so, is there treatment?

What would be the most logical OD to purchase next?

The only problem I see here is you need more OD,

    the treatment is TGP.

What would be the most logical OD to purchase next?

    All of them :)

The OCD doesn't sound like any Marshall I've used so I'm always curious why people say this. Maybe my specific OCD just sucks since I know there's quite a bit of variance between them.

I reccomend you go ahead and sign up on the KOT waiting list.

Even if you dont know what it is, by the time your ticket is called you'll want one.

Yeah technically it's supposedly derived from a DOD OD 250 --> Voodoo Labs OD --> OCD.

Different versions of OCD (not including the Ge version):

For me, treatment came in the form of a good amp. Once you have an amp with a breakup character you like, dirt pedals are instantly less attractive

But what about an OD pedal paired with a nicely broken up amp? You know, to get that extra push over the cliff.

In that case, they all sound pretty similar to me.

I would say that 90% of the time that situation really calls for a boost pedal, so as to not change the overall character of the amp saturation but just increase it.

Watch every episode of That Pedal Show at least twice. It will answer this and more. ;)

But yes, OD pedals can work on pristine clean, edge of breakup, or already overdriven amps. Some work better than others. e.g. The DS1 is meh for creating distortion on a clean amp, but magical with a dirty Marshall.

Also, some work better with different style amps (e.g. Marshall, Vox, or Fender style). Some amps have naturally scooped mids like a 50s Fender, so you don't want a pedal that would add a lot of highs (unless you really dial your amp in for that pedal). Similarly, a Marshall with pushed mids might not sound good with a pedal that boosts mids.

Yeah. I was kind of there until I got a couple Kingsley pedals. They didn’t stop be from more dirt pedals but definitely slowed me down.

Hmm what next you ask? Well I don't have 90 like USMarine75...OORAH! Because he is a wild man :)

But I've got 20+ and you definitely need some more OD. Honestly, check out the Aleks K Productions SunBeam Magic Drive. Here is a vid. Around the 3:00 mark he starts talking about the Dense knob. I love how this pedal sounds! Dude demos a lot of guitars so you can really hear how this handles single, humbuckers, etc.

I'm at this level of excess, and now I don't feel quite as bad. That said, I am due now for another wave of sell-offs. A few sells funded my Van Wheelden Royal OD, which has predictably made a few other ODs pretty superfluous. Then I got a Barber DD/DC, and my "British-voiced" thing seems pretty well sorted out by that!
