I have a P90 Les Paul with stock 300k pots.

I was going to look at swapping the neck pickup out for a Lollar (or similar) to brighten things up a bit, but it's been suggested that I try swapping the stock 300k pots for a set of 500k pots.

    Thoughts?

    I use 500k for P90s and humbuckers.

    That will brighten it.
At the same time you can also get pots that are better with a better taper as well.

    So if I get a guitar with a P90 & a Humbucker I would want 500k pots for volume and tone ?

It's a Tele, so it would come with 250K.
I've never seen a 300k but I always have some sort of Tele.

Just for your info, original LP Jr's came with 500k volume pots and 250k tone pots. I'm going to try that combo in my SG Classic when I re-pot it.

I'm about to install my new Vintage Vibe humbucker sized P90's (HS-90) and Pete B suggested I started out with the 500k's the guitar has now and try 250ks if it was too bright. Did the old 50's Jr's and then Specials come with 500k vol pots and 250k tone pots? What difference will a 500k vs. a 250k tone pot do?

My 2xP90 guitar has a master volume and a master tone only.

Recent experience.................. Have a P90 guitar that had 500K pots all around. It was too Hi FI, to bright when using the bridge pup. I got a 300K CTS pots for the bridge vol and tone. I also installed an RS superpot 500K for the neck vol and a 500K CTS for the neck tone. I also install Jensen PIO .022 and .015 caps. Problem solved, a beautiful thing!

Got all of the stuff from RS Guitar Works.

But having said that, it really depends on the guitar. I have had mny P90 guitars that sounded great with 500K pots. This particular guitar just didn't work with them. If the guitar tends to be on the bright side , I would go with 33K's for the bridge...........
