Love the design of all the Pagellis I've seen. That one's a beauty.

Moon Cut Spruce. Here's an opinion from a highly experienced Martin Authorized Repairman:

Regarding this traditional method the old violin masters like Stradivarius etc. said that moonwood has several advantages to non-moonwood. This wood is more resistant against moister changes and it is stiffer: some analysis say that it seems to be ca. 15% denser than a comparable piece of non-moonwood and it feels like long-time stored wood that has reached a stable state.

It's a sales pitch. Using AS's name and saying the old Cremonese makers made claims about "moonwood" is ridiculous because nobody, let alone the old violin makers, recorded what they thought about the craft.

A good spruce for steel string guitars is Adirondack (red spruce) which has ugly wide grain in the terms given above. There is also red spruce from Italy and lots of great spruce from the Balkans. It makes sense to timber in the winter when there is less moisture in the wood. The tree's genetics probably have the most to do with characteristics for instrument wood.

And still less than half the cost of a new Monteleone Mando-guitar

And probably with less of a wait time

I am NOT a traditionalist, but I have a good sense of design. So I'm normally pretty slow to embrace new designs because many fall short despite best intensions. But that's a very nice design. I like it. The sound is nice and lively too.
