(this may be old news to you but I've always wondered)

I'm no expert, but that grain sure looks like ash to me. Argue away TGP.

I have no knowledge or opinion about Jimmy Page's guitars, but that tele is ash.

1959, ash, top-loader, originally blonde. That's what I heard. Those features all correlate for the year of production too.

Three bolt, and yet it doesn't seem to bother him.
    They were clueless back then.

Sweet shirt too. The precursor to today's hawaiian shirts.

Looks like Ash to me and to be honest I loved Jimmy with the Tele and never gave it any thought=but cool to know. Saw Zep back in 77, 4th night of 6 shows but never dug the bow routine. To be honest not many players or Zep fanatics I know do either.

Saw em in 69 (second row!) and at the time, everything Page did was beyond the imagination. The bow was absolutely unearthly. Yeah I know, not really, but it was a time and place thing. Sitting there going what in the HELL is he doing now? Where is THAT sound coming from? Cheesis K Reist!! By 77, I knew how he did it and I can see the thrill would be almost gone.

Page tells a good story about picking up the bow. When Page was doing studio work, one of the studio violin players (David McCallum's father it turns out), asked Page if he had ever tried using a bow and proceeded to hand his to Page. The rest is history.

It's a good thing it wasn't made of alder or the Zepplin albums would have sounded completely different...
It would have also dropped Plant's voice about two octaves.
