    Journeyman relic with heavy checking. The mint guard is a total nonstarter for me. What kind of guard should replace it and where should I source it from? I am tempted to just go go a clean white.

    Thoughts?

    I’m not generally a fan of relics, but no, that’s not ugly.

    No, its not.

    Are you thinking about buying it? If not, why do you care if others think it is ugly or not?

    Not ugly, but not my cup of tea.

    The pickguard suggests it was made by Moses or Alexander the Great;

    The body looks like a room painted freshly for a new baby son;

    And the neck would look better on a heavily flamed top body.

    Yes. I just want some neutral opinions.

    Looks great. I would put a single ply white guard on it instead.

    There is no such thing as a "neutral opinion" on TGP. Still, why do you care what others think? The only opinion that matters is yours. Do YOU think it is ugly?

    Yeah I'm into it, but I agree with this. Go full 50's on the aesthetic. Good either way, though!

    I can always go single ply white or parchment later right? Even on a custom
    Shop?

    Not a huge fan of the finish but I think its because the pickguard looks a little too dark for my tastes. The neck/wood looks cool, but yea I think the guitar could be improved with some small tweaks.

    It likely all comes together a bit different in person but even in the photo I like it as it's got a bit of its own thing going on.

    I don’t think it’s ugly, but it’s just not something I personally would buy.

    Neutral opinions, LOL. It's fine, if it floats your boat!

    Not for me because:
    • I'm not a fan of the 'pastel' custom colors too much: sonic blue, daphne blue, surf green, sea foam green, etc. I like a sunburst, or a metallic, or dakota or fiesta going on.
    • I'm old enough that when I ran into the first green guard strat in the early 70s, I thought it was because someone had used too much turtle wax on it and it had turned.
