China Crisis - What Price Paradise - PoP - scratches and all.
JOhn Hiatt Bring the Family really nice
Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and to a slightly lesser sonic degree, The Soft Bulletin
Before I get started on Radiohead or Beck, I'll just say anything that Nigel Godrich worked on.
As for remasters,
The 24/96 FLAC remaster of REM's Fables of the Reconstruction is great.
The NEMS 180g vinyl remaster of Black Sabbath's Paranoid really stands out.
I forgot about this one. It actually even sounded fabulous on cassette as well. Great songs as well so it's a must have.
Most of Bowie's RCA releases sound very nice. On the other end of the spectrum, the poor Stooges never got the recording quality they deserved.
And what about the best recorded live albums? any takers?
I used to use BTF to demo stereo equipment. i was trying out some paradigms they put me in a room, I put in BTF the guy comes back in inquires on who is that...So I go back a few days later for stands and store is playing bring the family.
The acoustic guitars sound great on this recording.
- The Original Soundtrack
Since Eric Stewart was the engineer on this (at 10cc's own Strawberry Studios), the entire album is flawlessly recorded, with all 4 original members (Stewart, Graham Gouldman, Lol Creme and Kevin Godley) operating on all cylinders. Folks know this album best for 'I'm Not In Love', but the entire album is fabulous from front to back. It's an album I use for auditioning audio equipment, along with others like Alan Parsons' 'I Robot' and a few others from different genres. Here's a brief documentary on how 'I'm Not In Love' was recorded:
And direct from Eric, Graham, Lol and Kevin:
Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus
Stan Getz - Getz a Go Go
Yes, it is the off key caterwauling at the end of the song.
Original vinyl release, not the overcompressed cd release.
Beautiful 'table. VPI, I think. (w/Eagle & Road Runner). What's that tubed gizmo under Ms Krall?
Its to late to stop now - Van Morrison
Vpi prime turntable. Under Ms Krall is a Zesto Andros 1.2 phonostage.
I think that's worth more than my car.
Pretty sure I didn't see any of these:
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds - pop/rock - Capitol Records
Sonic Youth - Dirty - Indie/avant - Geffen
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless - Indie/shoegaze - Warner Bros.
PJ Harvey - Rid of Me - Alt Rock - Island
The Breeders - Last Splash - Alt Rock - 4AD
The Pixies - Doolittle - Alt Rock - 4AD
Mogwai - The Rock Action - Post-rock - PIAS
Jawbreaker - 24 hour revenge therapy - punk - blackball
Neurosis - Through Silver In Blood - Metal - Relapse
Her album The Hunter is also beautifully recorded. Some incredible musicians on it too (Roscoe Beck, Vinnie Colaiuta, Michael Landau, Robben Ford, David Grissom, Eric Johnson, Richard Thompson, Donald Fagen and of course Leonard Cohen). It's painfully dull musically though.
Anything buy Rickie Lee Jones.
Got no time to read through all the pages, so forgive me if these were posted previously.
