    I have a 1996 Peavey 5150.

Today I turned it on and everything powers up fine but the sound gets tiny a and thinner the more I turn up the volume. On both channels.

Im not sure if this is a tube problem. Preamp Tubes? Output Tubes?

It could be either. Plug your guitar into the FX loop return. Does it still do the same thing? If so, it's the power tubes. If not its a preamp tube.

I would also get some contact cleaner and spray it on a 1/4" and run it in and out of the both the send and return of the loop.
