Hi all, I just posted a thread in the "Wanted To Buy" forum today for a Peavey Classic 30, but I had some questions regarding some other similar amps. I've been reading these forums for some time now, and it seems that there are quite a few knowlegable people here. I'd like to know what you all think of this amp in general, but mostly, what other amps are comparable in quality and price? The amp will be used mainly for home use and small gigs. Also, I'd like something that is pedal-friendly, since I'll most likely be using a multi-effects pedal at home to eliminate some pedal clutter. I've read some good things about the C30 and the Delta Blues in particular, and want to get some more opinions. Thanks in advance for your help.

Crate V1512/V16 or V3112/V32 with the latter being most "like" the C30...

The new Crate V series is a great value... I'd definitely check one out before buying a classic 30.

    Have fun!

Please correct me if I am wrong, but the V16 and V32s are also called "Palomino", right? Aren't they some sort of special edition?

They are the Palimino at Guitar Center. Anywhere else they are the V series and have the charcoal grey cabs.

FWIW - I'd take the Delta Blues over a Classic 30 anyday...

I agree with you there, but now I've been checking in to that Crate you and Bozo recommended, and I can't quite make up my mind.

The Crate has a great clean channel, but a much better OD channel than any of the Peavey's. I recently had the chance to plug into the V30 at a local music store with a Set Neck Washburn and this thing just rips. Great sustain and a good modern Marshall type of tone. I'd definitely check one out before buying any Peavey Classic 30 or Fender Blues Jr. kind of amp.

Another option that bears some merit is the Ampeg jet. No... I don't work for St. Louis Music ;)

I've got a Trace Elliott Velocette that I'd be willing to part with. Best EL84 clean tone of any of the amps discussed, and breaks up wonderfully. Single channel. All new tubes.

Oy, the plot thickens... 1x10 or 1x12?

1x10 it's been my b/u gig amp for years. It's not beautiful, but it works great and sounds to die for. The 1x10 has better sound than the 1x12 IMHO...
