Hi folks, i'm considering getting one of these for a backup/2nd amp and i'm wondering which would suit me better. I play mostly classic/alt rock with the cover band but I also like higher gain stuff. I hear the 4x10 is much noisier than the 212 for higher gain stuff. True? Can anyone describe a good comparison of the two?

I liked both but yeah for hard rock I'd definitely go 2x12s you'll get more low end. I like 4x10s for blues and funk, more like a Super Reverb config....

I have owned both, and prefer the 212. For rock guitar, I don't think you can do better than a 12inch speaker.

If I remember right, I think the 410 sounded more smooth. The 212 sounded more open.

Im partial to 12's. There way more speaker upgrade options and 1/2 as many to replace in a 2x12 vs 4x10 format. Bob

I had the 4x10 and it was ok as long as you didn't venture too deep into the harder rock tones.

I have a 2x12 and it a great amp. I tried the 4x10 but it left me wanting more. It was loud but not as dynamic as the 2x12. Either way, used or new the Peavey classic amps are still a great deal in my opinion.

    Thanks,
    Sam
