My dad still has a Peavey Standard head (and a Musician too) that he bought new eons ago. Next time I visit my parents I guess I will have to plug into them and see if I can experience some of the magic that I'm apparently missing.

Cool & true: Peavey originally sold those heads with a full, life-time warranty for the original owner. So probably about a decade or so ago, my dad brings his Standard head in for repair (it was making unwanted noise), and the Peavey service guys got a kick out of seeing an original owner bringing in a Standard head after all those years — and they indeed fixed it for free!

I wish I had known that when my Artist 1x12 started screeching about 20 years ago -probably the footswitch- and I dumped it for about $70 instead of having it fixed.

I recently saw them two nights at the observatory in San Diego. I recorded his guitar tech sound checking his guitars and effects. I recant my statement on his tone. It was pretty badass sounding. If you want to hear what I posted my instagram handle is navyjon21.

I had one of those Musician heads a long time ago. It was a lot of fun. It sounded very tube-like, with just a tiny bit of antisocial SS edge. Once you go into distortion land, tubes are really just one color (ok several colors) among many.

It's how he gets that sound that really kicks you in the face!

i had this head (the 260) for about 4 years, many gigs, and it was a fairly unique and in your face sound.

plenty loud, and not wimpy about funky voltage,
like 50% of the clubs i've played.

a stout midrange, kinda weird high end, which is cool if you don't want brilliant tones or bell tones.

I have an old 120 head, not sure what to do with it.

Oh my lord, what a pretentious wanker :D

If you gave me four Distressors and a couple 1176's I could make a Gorilla sound pretty decent too ahahahahahaha

What a waste of that studio time
