I'm sorting out my pedalboard and I need some guidance - which comes first in the chain: reverb or delay?

    Thanks!

i've always put delay first - sounds more natural to my ear. try it both ways and see what you like!

ive toyed with both options and ended up with delay before reverb. Reverb before delay was a cool sound but the former won for me.

also, i have a katana boost. I had a board where I had 2 delays and the katana last. I like to use reverb as a big cave spacey effect. running the katana after the reverb added WAY TOO MUCH reverb for my taste (for some spacey solos). So I run delay into Katana into Reverb FWIW

Thanks for the feedback - I figured that if you're using some pretty thick reverb, running it before the delay would create a very muddy tone. I'll throw it on after my delays...

I use an RV-5 and use the modulate setting (mainly) which sounds better to me before delays. Reverb tends to have a stronger signal when at the end of the chain and I don't like the delays to add reverb...I just tried it the other way around last night confirming I like reverb before delays. Especially for swells/ambience stuff.

Reverb simulates playing in a large, echo-ing space. Therefore delay (artificial effect) before reverb. Unless you're running unusual reverb (backwards, swelling, harmonized ...) that you want to the delay to repeat the effect with each iteration of the note/chord. Although I think I'd want a noise gate/Sonic Stomp/whatever after that lot.
