Sorry, I'm not on your merry-go-round. They're both titans & if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice. ;)

Paul McCartney told Brian Wilson himself according to the quote. "Pet sounds is the best compilation of music I have ever heard. Specfically God only knows."

both great works!!!! i don't need to chose.

on the other hand- The original "Respect " by Otis Redding or the cover by Arthea? Easy, Aretha just stole it!

The reason Paul stated that is because according to Brian Pet Sounds was inspired and answer to Sgt Pepper. Gotta love those A&E Bios. So I think the comparison of songs might be a little off. I think A day in the life compared to God only knows are the two songs that are almost mirror images of each other in their epicness.

sneaky title! For songs, I'd definately pick If God Only Knows... however the Beatles reign supreme in my collection

God only Knows is probably the Beach Boys best song I think, so would have to go with it. I'd end up going with a Beatles song though most of the time. They're both the best!

I've tried to put the Beach Boys on the same level as the Beatles but it just doesn't work for me. If Brian Wilson had support from his band and record company things may be different but sadly it didn't work out that way and the music suffered. Pet Sounds rules though...

I like the Beatles more, but God Only Knows takes Penny Lane to the woodshed (and I love Penny Lane).

I am HUGE Beatles fan but I had to go with God Only Knows on this one. Penny Lane is a great song but its thrown in with the many great songs that the Beatles did. God Only Knows is one of those true masterpieces that doesn't come out very often.

Now if this were God Only Knows vs. While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Something, etc I'd be pushing the Beatles button.

The Beatles are the greatest band ever, unfortunately "God Only Knows" is the greatest pop song ever.

    Beach Boys win this one.

The Wilson brothers win out in this instance. "God Only Knows" is absolutely brilliant!

I think a better question is "God Only Knows" vs "A Day in the Life." This matchup is no contest.

It's a confusing poll to me...

"God Only Knows" to me is miles above "Penny Lane", but Beatles are miles better than beach boys in their entire catalogues...

So I had to vote Beatles...

The Beach Boys vocal harmonies on "Wouldn't it be nice" are almost indelibly locked in my mind, sheer beauty.... Everyone needs to have a copy of "Pet Sounds".

I see no reason to choose.
