Is there a small personal recording device for writing riffs and such over your own recorded guitar parts that's the clear winner?

I just was something simple that I can plug my guitar into, get a decent distortion on and record chord progressions and play and write leads over?

Is there a device that most everyone agrees on out there?

I think the Boss Micro BR might be a good choice for that (stand alone)

I think all the manufacturers seem to have something like this out right now.

A great many really like the Boss RC-20XL looper pedal. It'll do a 16 minute loop, and you can just wank all over it, til your heart's content. It's not recorded so to speak, but a cool tool, none the less.
