Looking for something that'll get me close to Live's "Lightning Crashes" strummed clean phaser sound. Has good, deep definition. Maybe any phaser will do? Not looking to break the bank here, I'd only use it for a few songs over 3 sets with my cover band. Anything good around $40-$50 I should consider? Would like control over mix and speed/depth.

I was thinking flanger for that, with chorus - I can get almost exact tone with my stereo electric mistress.

a phaser w a depth control for that price will be tough.

you can look at used units, most w the speed set very slow should be good enough for a cover.

edit- i also thought that may have been a flanger.

I used to use an EHX Small Stone to nail that sound. You could snag a used one for around what you're looking to spend.

Are you see that's not chorus in that tune. I have played it a bunch of times with chorus and it sounds pretty close.

There's a lot of different modulation effects out there that can get "close enough" to that tone, but yeah, the actual recording was done with a rotovibe like the earlier post said. Cool effect/sound on that recording for sure :)

There is a YouTube demo where the Red Witch Deluxe Moon Phaser nails that tone.

    [never played through one]

Look for a used DOD fx20b. It has 3 knobs: speed, depth, and regen. "Lightning Crashes" is the first tune that came to mind when I started fiddling with it.

Univibe is just a phaser with a slightly different LFO shape, so you should be able to get close to one with the other. And if that's going to work maybe the orange phaser is a good choice.
