Phil's a blast. Always enjoy watching him.
I have enjoyed Phil X's videos over the years, but not this one so much. He seems a bit forced and IMO didn't really showcase the guitar. I realize that this has been a longstanding complaint of some people, but it seemed more apparent here. Most of the playing was after he switched to the higher gain amp and pedal. My favorite part was the jam near the end.
That said, I'm glad he's back and hope the next one is more like the Phil X of old.
I fecking loved it!
I feel sad for people that are amused by this guy. I guess it was Fretted Americana or McDonalds
Personally I like Phil X although some of the schtick gets old.
Sixteen minutes to demo a guitar........no thanks. I just need to hear what it sounds like without pedals and the same for an amp.
I like his demos and his sense of humor. He cracks me up...
This was a long review but I felt like he has toned it down a little.
I like it that he dialed it down some. He really is a gifted musician and communicator.
He is the kind of person I really like to see do well. If I was to see someone say they met him in person and he was rude and unappreciative, I would be genuinely surprised. I don't think one could easily fake the positive nature such as he transcends from in front of the camera.
At 12:22 he does a pretty convincing whammy bar move.
Its the Great Kat with a wobbly warhead
I love this guy.
Great thing about Phil is the guy just lives in the zone. He never leaves it. Most of us struggle at times if not often to get in the zone and often fail. Phil has surpassed that point and stuff just explodes out of him every time he picks up a guitar. I think more so that many players considered much better than him, or at least get a lot more love than him.
And yes, the shtick not only gets old but is now well past that and is downright irritating. But i suffer thru it to get to the playing. The guy is just a great rock player period. Beyond the shtick he's the real deal.
Its true, Canadians are the best guitar players...
He's an encyclopedia of licks and he plays with fire. What's not to like?
I enjoyed that! If I was in the market, he just sold me a LP.
Watched the whole thing and really enjoyed it.
The guitar did seem to get lost during the VH song but it could have been the mix.
That Hofner Beatle bass was really cutting.
His Bass VI demo's convinced me I needed one.
Phil X was great when the vids were limited to under 10 mins.
With too much time he just blabbers.
I think Phil is a riot. I always enjoy watching his videos. Dude can flat out play too.
This- I liked his playing here- yes- recap of some oldies- but still awesome.
