This past PA winter wreaked havoc on my guitars. A small center seam separation on my D-45 top and the start of the infamous Martin pick guard cracks from the guard pulling the wood away from shrinkage. My luthier recommends pulling the guard off, slight gluing of the cracks, putting finish over the PG area and installing a nice new adhesive backed tortoise style guard. Any recommendations? He showed me two different company offerings from his Stew-Mac book but it's hard to tell from pics what it will look like on the D-45. The original is sort of a reddish brown without much distinction so I don't mind replacing. I almost think a black one would look better but I know most people like the tortoise and so do I but there seems to be so many variations and I don't like the real thick ones. Any info or opinions much appreciated.

Pull the old one, fix the crack, replace the pg. Martin may send you a new one, they did for me IIRC.
