    Hey folks,

Wondering if anyone has noticed a change in tone when using a metal pickguard.

I notice a distinct change in tone (brighter and more balanced) when I remove the metal pickguard on my '91 ASAT to adjust the front PU's height. Quite dramatic! I'm now thinking of getting a plastic pickguard to try out different tones. The metal seems to mellow out the axe (not a bad thing for a T style) but the front PU is a little tubby with the metal pickguard but brightens up great without the guard on.

Thoughts? I'm not imagining the change, it's definitely there!

Yes, it makes a very noticeable difference. I've posted about this a few times before.

I first discovered this effect when playing around with an old blackguard Esquire. The black bakelite guard is a big part of "that" sound, swap it out for a white vinyl guard and you will hear it.
