Pickup recommendations for classic fuzz tones please...

Hi there!

I'm interested in classic rock sounds and my rig is currently based around LP > Sunlion (Sunface + Beano Treble Booster) > DLS MKIII > '59 Bassman RI (with various tube/speaker tweeks to tame the brittle high end). At bedroom levels, the gain is coming from the Sunlion driving the DLS, the Bassman is running as a clean pedal platform. I'm also considering a Ronno Bender > Cry Baby Mini (for cocked-wah sounds) to go between the Sunlion and DLS, as an alternative to the Sunface.

The LP is a Gibson BFG LP, so it's chambered (which I love). Stock electronics were replaced with an RS Guitarworks kit (300K pots) to restore separate vol/tone controls and to lose the stupid kill switch(!). The pickups are still stock: Gibson P90 neck and Burstbucker 3 in the bridge.

Running into treble boosters, I currently use the neck P90 (lowered into the body) with the volume rolled way down for my 'clean channel', and then switching to the bridge BB3 and riding the volume for various dirt sounds. I generally don't enjoy dirt with the neck P90 as I find it way too muddy/bassy with the volume rolled up. The BB3 generally has more output than I need, the volume is normally below 8/9.

With the Sunface side of the Sunlion, I have the input trimmer turned way down for maximum volume knob clean-up. The Sunface has a 'very low gain' white dot NKT.

Given my classic pedal/amp choices, I'm considering swapping pickups with more vintage/low-output units in order to reduce the guitar's output, get more use from the full volume sweeps, and get closer to vintage sounds.

For the neck P90, I've thought about swapping to something like a 10% under-wound to get more range from the volume knob. For the bridge, maybe a Burstbucker I, or low-output PAF type? Basically, I know next to nothing about pickup options, other than reading that low-output pickups is where it's at for vintage tones.

tl/dr:

Can anyone please recommend a well matched low output neck P90 and bridge HB that work well with germanium treble booster/fuzz face/MKI tone bender for an avid volume knob rider in search of vintage tones?

Check out Fralin or Lollar, maybe contact their customer service department and see what they would recommend without giving them too much information, i.e. don't mention 10% underwound (sometimes that's just an easy sell), just tell them you're current setup and what you'd like to get out of the guitar and see what they suggest.

Thanks, that's sound advice!
