Pickups for Type O Negative Tone

Recently I've purchased an '87 MIJ Charvel 3B for playing Type O Negative songs. The stock pickups are a bit weak and I'd like to replace them. What PJ pickups are good for the Peter Steele tone? I'm not adverse to installing an entirely new wiring harness and cost is no object.

Ive read (mind you a while ago so yhere could be holes) he played around a bit with alembic, zon, and something with a sustainiac onboard.
For the money Alembic pickups would want to be good for copping any kind of tone.

I would recommend any kind of good, high output PJ set, such as a SD set, and to invest in a very high quality compressor with fast attack.

A Origin Effects Cali 76 or Mark Bass Compressore would be my choice.

From what little I could find, I believe Peter Steele favoured the Seymour Duncan Music Man pickup in most of his basses.

If you're willing to hack up your bass, I'd put that in the bridge position and a complementary P pickup in the neck.
