Just wanted to share a few pics of the 2006 Special Edition Strat that I picked up last week. I'm not sure what Fender considers "special" about this model, but it played better than any other Strat in the store that day. It also sounded the best unplugged. So I guess that's special enough for me.

At the moment, I have installed Sperzel locking tuners and replaced the pickups with Duncan Alnico IIs. It sounds very warm and sweet. Just like I wanted it to. I have a new trem assembly and a graphite nut in the works. I'll post some more pics when the transformation is complete.

Thanks guys. I believe that the original pickups were Fender Tex-Mex. Not sure. They sounded ok, but were not delivering the tones that I look for in a Strat. So far, the Duncan APS-1s are doing what I wanted them to do. The tone is war ans round, with just the right amount a glass to make them sing.
