Pierson Amp - muffled/foggy...different tubes?

I've got a Pierson 5F1 Champ with a Weber Vintage AlNiCo speaker.

I find the sound is quite muffled or foggy almost unusually so. I can try some drastic eq to fix it, not the best solution, it's been suggested that I might try some different tubes. Any thoughts?

Thanks for any input.

Tube types if that helps:

Output: 6V6GT
Preamp: 12AX7
Rectifier: 5Y3GT

I could pull them and check the brands as well.

is this a new amp to you? or has it recently started doing this?
I had a very simualr problem with a H&K amp of mine, tubes were Ok. but just the bias had slipped a bit, took it to a tech, and all was well again. - Might be that?

It's sounded this way since day one for me but the amp is 3 years old so I think the tubes are also roughly 3 years old.

Maybe I'll have to take it in.

Just heard back, he thought to try different tubes as well.

He suggested the 12AX7 first and then the 6V6, I guess they would have the most impact on the sound.

If you have access to an amp tech you trust, why guess? Get the amp - and speaker - checked out. Especially if it's been like this since day one.
