You're playing guitar, and a guitarist that you respect sits down in front of you and says, "Play me something". What do you play?

Open G to Cadd9 and back. It's the required gear demo chord sequence.

I would probably play a Beatles tunes with elements of Jeff Beck's expression, Danny Gatton's chops, Steve Vai's wild abandon, Guthries Govan's precision and B.B. Kings emotion.

No matter what, it would be based on a 13th chord because that's my thing.

    But that's just me.

Maybe "Dig a Pony" or "Isn't It a Pity."

If I respect them, then I'm assuming I know them so I'd play something in their style or something I know they'd appreciate.

If it's EVH, 5150. Chord shapes kill my hand in the intro.

If it's Tom Scholz, Walk On in its entirety. His Magnum Opus and I can pull it off with relative ease.

I have never been asked this, but I get asked a lot, "what's the hardest thing you can play?"

I never really knew how to answer that.

If on an acoustic then blackbird.
    If electric,
pentatonic 1st position noodling or maybe the wurm from starship trooper.

mostly I just hope no one asks

I'm curious how different these answers would be if the question was what would you play if you plugged a guitar into an amp at Guitar Canter and random people were around??

    I'd probably just start improvising.

That, or play Something, like @jackson said, though I haven't played it for a while now and don't really remember it. I've actually been meaning to revisit it and refresh my memory.

I recently learned a few jazz standard chord melody arrangements that really make it sound like I know what I'm doing on guitar. I would probably panic and play one of those, which would likely prompt further discussion and/or playing which would make it very clear that I don't really know what I'm doing on guitar.

Something I can do on auto pilot like my John Pizzarelli inspired version of Route 66(6) with fast walking bass and some vague mumblings of distant place names I can’t seem to always remember in order.

Just enough to indicate some facility but as for an encore, in the unlikely event that one is sought, I’m pretty much screwed.
