played a john mayer strat today

    alls i gots to say is,i think its fenders best production strat @ the mo,i think it had the steel block thing going on with the bridge..
    much nicer than the eric johnson one i played.........very alive and snappy sounding guitar......awsome! must buy one when funds permit..
    is sunburst the only colour???

    It's made in a few different colors, not sure if they discontinued some.

    They discontinued one color. And the pups are Underwinded instead of the blues standard overwinding.

    I tried the EJ and the Mayer. I walked out of the store with the Mayer. Excellent guitar. The neck is perfect. The colors are Sunburst and Shoreline Gold with a maroon racing stripe.

    that olympic white looks mighty nice. i must admit, a lot nicer than the racing stripe model.

    Great guitar. Especially the neck. I have one with 3TSB and changed out the pickguard to mint green. Now it looks like a '62 Strat only with a 9.5" neck radius and 6105 frets. Fender definitely got this one right. A vintage looking/sounding guitar, but with modern radius/frets. They could finish in nitro and charge 2X as much thru the Custom Shop...

    That wouldn't be hard. I have played three of the EJ models and not only did they do nothing for me, but they were downright awlful. Sticky necks.
    Too bad about the Mayer racing strip one getting discontinued. I actually didn't mind it.
