I'm a Marshall guy and haven't really had any experience with boutique amps. Went to Tone Merchants over the weekend and tried a couple just to see what I've been missing. I tried a Bad Cat 212 combo, a Cornford 112 combo and a Germino Masonette into a 112. Didn't like the Bad Cat at all. Over the top fizzy distortion and too many knobs to fiddle with. Perhaps I didn't have it dialed in right. The Cornford was OK. Sounds alot like my Jubilee, diode clipping and all. Not a bad amp but too much like my Jube. The clear winner was the little Germino. Boy do I like the sound of that thing! Tone for days. And loud for only 25 watts. Much louder than my Jube on its half power setting.

Wouldn't you know, I like the discontinued model that belongs to the store's owner and it's not for sale. For those who are familiar with the Masonette, any suggestions on other amps that will get me the plexi-ish type of tone. I know another Germino will do it but they told me it's taking at least 6 months to get one. A little too long of a wait for me. What else should I be looking at? Marshall 2061, Mojave Coyote, Rockytop, what else?
    thanks

Ask Greg Germino to make another Masonette....OR....better yet.....get a Germino Club 40 that can use 6v6's and behave like the Masonette.
You basically have a more flexible amp with the Club 40 by being able to use EL-34's OR 6V6's.

Buy a used Masonette, that is what I did.

Or get a Club 40 as m1911 pointed out.

Just e-mail or call Greg. He's a super nice guy that will do what he can to help you. Also, I see used Masonettes for sale quite often here in the emporium. No need to worry about buying a used Germino. Those amps will probably still be kicking long after you are not. I bought a used Lead 55 and love it. I'll have it for the rest of my days.

I bought my Masonette from a member here.
It's worth it to keep checking - besides people are always selling their Germino's to buy another Germino:)

The Marshall and Coyote are nice too, but pricey.

I know. I really like the clips I've heard on the Mojave but I have areal problem spending $2100 on a 12 watt amp. Same with the 2061.

Check out the Fargen VOS, my disclaimer, I sell them. Best rock amp that I've played.
