Hi all. I know there's a lot of info on distortion boxes here, and I was hoping for some advice with a pedal recommedation for my particular situation. I've recently gotten involved in a cover band that plays classic 70s/80s metal in the vein of UFO, Ozzy and Rainbow. My main guitar is a 77 Strat hardtail through a Budda Superdrive which gives me great distorted tones that also has some tonal identity, as opposed to typical overprocessed metal "scooped-mids" sound.

When we meet in the rehersal studio I don't bring an amp and I have to use some crappy abused Marshalls, so I need a good sounding distortion pedal. I have a Fulltone Fulldrive which sounds great but does not give me enough distortion. I've tried a Fulltone Distortion but was completely disappointed with the OD, totally buzzy and unsophisticated.

Can anyone recommend a pedal that can fit the bill will beef up a single coil guitar? An added bonus on a pedal would be a signal boost for solos. What do you higher gain players use to give you a great distortion which retains some dynamics and tonal sophistication? Thanks for you help and input, I appreciate it!

Barber Direct Drive would do what you want. For a boost a Launch Pad.

Here are some clips of my ThroBak Overdrive Boost with my 52' American Vintage Tele that are not posted to my site yet. The clips are with an 18 watt clone. The ODB will do lead boost also as do most Colorsound Overdriver derived pedals like the Joy Ride and Power Driver. www.throbak.com

Try a Barber Direct Drive SS, a Tonebone Classic, or a Blue Boy Deluxe. They all will work for the OD your needing.

+1 Best Marshall in a box that I know of.

It likes to be played through a clean channel.
