This song is from the 60s by Chad and Jeremy called Morning. It`s got this really wonderful percussive instrument right at the beginning. I wanna say it`s a Latin or Spanish instrument..at first I thought it was a pair of Claves but I`m not sure. Any ideas??

    Yeah, those are castanets.

    Good player, too.

I've always wondered how easy/hard it is to play those.

^ It's flipping hard. I have a set, and can barely get them to clack properly

Absolutely right. I was thinking "those things you use with your hands" and typed maracas.

To play authentic castanets is extremely difficult, however, many percussionists resort to sets that are permanently mounted to a block, loaded with a spring action and played with sticks/mallets.
