Ok guys I am curious to know which are the most used/favorite effect for overdrive/ distortion NOTHING HEAVY PLEASE that you guys use. I am having a little trouble dialing smooth overdrive so far. I have been using the "classic distortion" because my favorite distortion pedal is THE RAT but its sounding too harsh (i know that the filter knob has to be way up). What are you using to dial your overdriven/distortion sounds???

My fav is the line 6 distortion. Mids at about 80%, treb at about 35%, basd and gain to taste. The mid control isn't a typical mid control, so dont be thrown by my settings, lol.

Boost/Comp (yes, you can use it as an overdrive), Tube Driver, TS.

I also normally cascade the boxes: Tube Comp (4-7%)-Tube Driver (Gain low, volume high)-Tube Screamer

Woops, I think you mean L6 drive. The L6 distortion is an uber gain metal sim and a good one but not what the OP wants.

    Here are my goto drives

L6 drive. Mid control is a blend knob between a tonebender fuzz and a modern distortion ala the rat. With the mids and gain around noon its a really nice med-hi gain OD/dist. Turn up the mids to tighten the bass.

Tube driver. keep the mids below noon or it gets honky

TS. I use it as a mid boost too

Classic distortion (its a rat sim) set for very low gain. Gets a blues driver kinda tone. I find the higher gain tones are weak and not very rat like at all.

+ 1 on Tube Comp but I actually like the Boost Comp best followed by the Treble Blue Comp used like a treble booster. Not a big fan of the built in overdrives.

Colourdrive works for me...I tweak the EQ so when I switch it on it sounds transparent, as close to the EQ of the amp sim being used.

All the Comps are good, I lower the levels so they increase the volume by about 10% or less when switched on.

I'm in the minority but I love Facial Fuzz. I end up using it everywhere because my bandmates demand it.
