Pod HD Pro X or 11R?

Okay, so tomorrow I am going to pull the trigger on either the Eleven Rack or the Line 6 Pod HD Pro X. Since the 11R comes with Pro Tools, it has me leaning towards that side, but I also hear that the Pod does djenty and modern progressive metal tones better, which is what I am after. If I got the Pod, I would also purchase Logic for my mac. So basically, for basic recording of modern djent and metal tones, what would suit me better?

I'm not a huge fan of either after owning both (went back to a tube amp and pedals) but I'd pick the POD for what you're aiming for.

I just looked up what djent was. And yes….I'm old.

In my opinion, either should do well for you. Line 6 has more variety of metal tones and the ability to shape things with various EQs then the 11r for dry punchy rhythmic tones. The 11r and Protools is pretty powerful as well. If decide to go with the 11r, you'll want the expansion pack.

I am a POD user (abuser), but X-mann knows the 11r inside and out. I'd send him a message.

EDIT: I just saw the AXE-FX 2 in your sig. Why are you looking at either of these units? The AXE can do it all!

Trust me, the Axe is killer, but I can't afford to keep it at the moment. I figured the Line 6 would be a little more like it than the 11R.

If you can afford it, Axe FXII. If you can have some amps that you love and want to put them on a modeler, Kemper. If you can't afford it, go Eleven Rack. If you want to sound like ****, POD HD500. There ya go.

I've had bothe the 11R and the HD. I prefer the HD's flexibility, and has about the same IO of the eleven rack.

True, I said POD HD500, not HD Pro X man get it right! XD My opinions change drastically day by day especially after playing through some.

They sound exactly the same

IMO, I would get the HD500X and then pickup pro tools. You'll save a bunch of cash, for something that sounds the same. It works just fine on my desktop (albeit a bit large) and then I can chuck it into my carry bag for gigs.

I would do the POD and Logic, because I think Logic is a great home-recording and songwriting tool, and the HD 500 has a LOT of very "metal" amp models (none of which I use.

I think Pro Tools is awesome for a pro studio, but I don't think you need it for home recording.

The reason I wouldn't do the Eleven is basically that we pretty much know it is a product with no future. You might find new updates and new amps for the POD, but Avid has basically (other than the new standalone editor, a few years too late) abandoned development of it. I don't like to buy stuff like that, ymmv.

Having had the 11R and HD500 (exact same models as Pro X) I would suggest getting a used 11R on the cheap. Better amp tones than the HD, but effects are not as flexible. Although be prepared for a big let down, neither is close to you Axe II.

Having had both, you need to stick with the HD Pro X.

There are a kazillion djent/progressive metal patches for Pod HD over at Sevenstring.org. Meambobbo has actually cloned multiple Periphery, Vildhjarta, and Meshuggah tones. His user guide is a Pod HD bible.

Chimp Spanner/Paul ortiz has a couple of good YouTube videos detailing his exact settings for getting clean and crunch progressive metal tones on pod HD.

You just have way less work you'll need to do tweaking-wise for your styles of music.

This cannot be reiterated enough. It is so incredibly helpful, I donated to the guy's site and I NEVER do that.

For a home studio I prefer Logic over Pro Tools... way easier to use and you can get it to work every bit as well, and with some things much better.

If you used a lot of effects with your Axe FX or used complicated effect chains, then the Pod would follow suite much better than the Eleven Rack.

But I'm confused... you say you hate the sounds of the HD500. The HD500 and POD HDPRO X are the same sounds/technology, but different enclosures. You may want to look into this before pulling the trigger.

For a home studio why not go with Reaper, and spend the money you'd spend of the software back into your hardware? I get great results from Reaper, it's low cost (not cheaply made!) and it's much more user friendly IMHO.
