Marshall have a design store where you can cover any amp or cab in any fret, tolex etc so you could have a custom cab to match.

One consideration for me in choosing the Runt is the cab emulated XLR out. That will come in handy on stage in place of micing the cab.

Best reply yet. You can get ideas here but for an actual purchase nothing beats lugging your guitar and board up to a local shop that has 3-4 of the amps you're thinking about and plugging in in a demo room. It's how I've chosen every amp. It's a bit like the Holy Grail, Harry's wand or a new puppy......it will choose you, you plug into one, the angelic ahhhs get queued and Survivor's "The Search is Over" chimes through your head as you check out.

I had a LOT of success with a Mark V 25 in a hard rock band. I really loved that amp for that purpose. I was getting fantastic (hairy) cleans, hitting a klone for crunch, and going to channel 2 Mark IV mode for the saturated big gain sound. Highly recommended, particularly with a v30 loaded cab.

I've had the Friedman Runt 20 for nearly 2 years now - Best amp I've ever had.

Buy a great pedal like a Weehbo JCM Drive LTD, put the real power tubes back in your amp.

I have a Runt 20 so that's how I voted. I use that or a BadCat HC15 for most gigs.

It was supposed to come today and I had practice tonight. Read the UPS thread - same thing happened to me. Hopefully tomorrow, then I can look at it longingly for a few days before plugging it in...

We play mostly bar gigs and the Mesa Boogie Mk V 25 is prefect for this use. Two very usable channels, lots of wattage options and tweakability, plus a DI out if keeping stage volume down is a goal.

Currently using a Katana 100 watt head with a Friedman Runt 20 112 cabinet. The Boss Katana is just so light and easy to use and sounds amazing in the Friedman. Also have a Carr Rambler that I may sell to pick up a Friedman Runt 20 head. Use a Lexicon for the verb so I do not care about the onboard reverb.

I am totally sold on the Friedman gear.

Hey Runt 20 users. I mostly play clean and kick in my effects loop with a Xotic plus pedal.
Is there much headroom with the Runt?
I have a Goodsell Mark II with El84s and I need to increase gain to get any bottom end and volume out of it. Unfortunately it dirties up the sound too much. Would this be the same with the Runt 20?

    Thanks,

    Tom

How loud do you play? Headroom is the "ratio" between how loud the amp is currently at divided by how loud it can get before all that happens is the power amp just overdrives without adding appreciable volume.

Not super loud player but need to get over a keyboard, bass, drums and two other guitar players.
We play at about 110 decibels if that means anything. I need it clean up to that point.
On my Carr Rambler I am running at about 11:00 on volume. The Ramble is pretty clean with great headroom.

Dirty Shirley Mini would fit the gig perfectly.

If I am primarily looking for nice cleans and headroom would the Runt 20 still be a good choice?

20w will not give you enough headroom IMO. You'll get quite a bit less headroom than your Rambler.
