Here's a poll to feel out how my fellow gearheads feel about which speakers to outfit in my AC30CC2. I'll be playing higher gain rock/pop rock.

    Let the voting begin!

An AC30 with 2 Celestion Blues is a classic tone and sounds great.

Blues, man... Blues. Be they Celestion or Weber - get some Blues.

Or a Weber Blue Dog & a Silver Bell (alnico) make a wonderful combination.

I'd like to hear more about this combo. What's the difference between it and 2 Blues?

Rez-erection of the thread, here. In case anyone is up late pondering this deep question, I have an even better suggestion:

One Alnico Blue, one Scumback 30 watt H75.

    Holy cow, it sounds good!

2 EV12ML, that should get the job done. Blues by Celestion or Weber will get you there.

Call me crazy, but I ran my AC30CC2 through a friend's Bad Cat 2x12 with Celestion Blues and it really wasn't enough of an eye opening experience to make me run out and replace the Wharfdales. We had that baby cranked, too.

I think while other combinations may sound good, two blues really deliver the goods on an ac 30.

I voted Blues, but love the way a cranked AC30 sounds through Greenbacks as well. I think it can depend on what guitar and pickups are going through the amp along with other variables of style, technique etc. I think Blues bring on the chime but can easliy be set overly bright. The greenbacks aren't at all dull and have a different midrange emphasis, making for a slightly creamier drive sound, especially if you use the Bright channel and accentuate the midrange (by keeping the bass and treble at noon or lower). At least, that's my experience and preference with a humbucking guitar into an overdriving AC30.

I would have voted for 1 Alnico blue and 1 warfdale. They make a good versatile combo. I think they are more versatile than just one blue. I also like the anni G12H30's with a Vox AC30CC, I found they sounded better to me than the Warfdales.

I would start by buying 1 alnico blue and pairing it with your stock warfdale. Than decide if you want to go for a 2nd alnico blue....
