Since Rhoads playing was very influenced by Schenker, I decided to make this poll.

Which guitarist do you prefer and why?

Rhoads, because I heard him first & 35 years later he's still my biggest inspiration (work ethic & continued study).

Schenker is a BEAST who's playing I love, though.

    Schenker.
    Always loved his playing.
A few years back, he ended up playing this little bar, like 6-7 blocks from my house.
Saw him with about 20-30 other people, it was f'n amazing.
I took my son, who was around 25 at the time, and he plays, mostly metal.
We're standing there, like 5 feet away, while he's just wailing.
My son was just shaking his head, stunned.

I stated playing electric in 1980.
Rhoads and Schenker were huge inspirations and influential to me.
    I can't choose.
    Both!! :dude

I saw Randy play with Ozzy on the Blizzard tour.
I saw Schenker in '84 on his Built To Destroy tour.

    Schenker.

Far better tone & UFO's "Only You Can Rock Me" is one of the greatest melodic guitar solos ever recorded.

Schenker by a lot for me! Not to knock his amazing skill, but I was just never a fan of Rhoads playing at all. Can see why others would be though.

Michael, all day long and twice on Saturday.

He changed the game in UFO, the live album solos are stunning, it's one of the best live albums EVER>

Randy all the way. One of my biggest inspirations. Great player and song crafter.

Michael Schenker. One of the most melodic and expressive rock guitarists in a golden age of rock guitarists.

Damn, love them both, but like NorCal Val states, Strangers In The Night. Schenker is still such an influence on so many guitarists (as is Randy Rhoads), but Schenker is a step above and the original "guitarists guitarist".

Schenker is IMO a great pentatonic player. As I have written before: the pentatonic thing has been done to death. I am talking the horse is beaten, dead, and bloated:horse

Rhoads used the harmonic minor scale and was a key player in the evolution of neo-classical metal. Rhoads FTW!

Young Schenker when he was at the top of his game, not post UFO Schenker.
One of the greatest phrasers in rock history.
Never a wasted note up through Obsession.
The only post UFO Schenker I can really get into is Walk on water. He literally was able to turn the clock back on that one. Vintage UFO/Schenker. That should have been the album after Obsession.

For me it's not an 'or' issue. It's an 'and' issue.

They were my two biggest influences when I started getting serious about guitar in the early 80's.
I learned a lot that I still use from picking off the songs from the first 2 Ozzy records & First 2 MSG records.
I couldn't pick one over the other

    Exactly why...

Randy was a legend ... Schenker is something in between a legend and a god...
