Both are my favourite players so I can't really choose. What I loved about Michael Schenker's playing was that it was SO melodic. I loved Dance Your Life Away, Lipstick Traces, Let it Roll, Mother Mary & so many more from the UFO era but he could even make some of the horribly cheesy songs from Built to Destroy sound good! Unlike so many other players of the day, he found a melody that just fit somehow...check out Time Waits for No One or Red Sky for an example.

Randy for me. Have listened to his stuff countless times. Haven't listened to Schenker that much. What I have heard I've liked, but like Randy's playing more.

I was lucky enough to work a show at Lakeview Arena in Marquette, MI back in'81-'82 when MSG with Cozy Powell was on tour supporting the "Beatin' the Odds" Hatchet tour. Was there for Michael's soundcheck. We set up his rig and it was a full double full stack Marshall rig, but the only live heads and cabs were one 100 watter and a 4x12...the rest were shells with led's in them. Man, we laughed about that back in the day, but his tone was massive in that hockey arena! Nothing but the V, a Crybaby (on and cocked the whole time), and that Marshall. Hauled Cozy Powell's set too...was a great day...so Michael Schenker for me too! :)

Schenker for sure. Not taking anything away from Rhoads, but I think the '70's era UFO stuff and his presence on some of the Scorpions albums is just awesome - especially when you consider what else was going on at that time with other guitar plays. I love watching those old UFO live performances on YouTube. Schenker's playing style, feel, solo composition, and tone from those days have been far more influential to me than anything I took away from Rhoads.

Late to the party here, but I'm going with Schenker. If Randy had lived, maybe it would be different.

Actually, he was. On a song called Fortune Town. Go listen to it and you'll hear that its Bellas, not Schenker.

Ahhh... bonus track on some release...there is an MSG bonus track too. Schenker was on all Wow tracks though, not that one "bonus" track", and I guess way Mogg and raymond are not on the "bonus" MSG track

Randy was a huge fan of Mick Ronson. Listen to the outro lead...

That is a very good clip. Unfortunately not too many out there with Randy but it is tough to compete with this one.

Randy Rhoads was a much better song writer than Michael Schenker and many of his peers for that matter.

I picked Schenker. Great sound, attitude, and phrasing. I really like this hard rock style, heavy and mean. However, as much as I like his style and playing, I feel his songwriting is not that great. On the other hands, Randy Rhoads has so many cool songs. They may sometimes sound a little cheesy, but still, I know many more songs from Randy than from Schenker.
