Curious how common/uncommon it is to use two different speakers in a 2x12. I am currently running a Hellatone A25 alnico and a Hellatone 25 Ceramic and I love it! Curious what you guys do.

    Thanks for voting.

I dont see a poll to vote, but yes...my last three 2x12's had different speakers (V30/G12H30 Dr. Z Best and Avatar Vintage) and a Marshall 1936 with a Veteran 30 and Greenback

My main 2x12 cab is a Dr. Z Open Back 2x12 - I have two Scumback J75LD 65 watt, with large dust covers in it. In my TopHat Club Royal combo I have an older English made Greenback and a G12H. Both cabs sound great...

I only have one 2-12 cab at the moment with two Creamback M's.

But just took delivery of a AlNiCo Cream yesterday and am smitten with it. I can see 2 Creams in that cab at some point.

I seem to like to find a speaker I like....the double it! Double the pleasure, double the fun!

I don't even mix and match models of speakers. I generally find the one speaker I like best for that amp, and get two (or four if it's a half stack cab) of the same speaker. I don't think there's anything wrong with mixing speakers. But I find it's so hard to find one right speaker for an amp, that I couldn't imagine all the possibilities you'd have to go through to find the perfect speaker to match the perfect speaker and amp combination you already had. That, and when I get something to sound good, I leave it alone. I've chased the rabbit of perfection down that hole before. You always wind up were you started, only more frustrated and with less money.

I prefer Alnicos, but mix speaker type to get the sound I'm looking for. I like to think of it as using each speaker to reinforce the other's weaknesses.

    - My AC30 has 2 Weber Blue Dog alnicos, but I use a 30 Watt and a 15 Watt for a little more highs from the 15 and a little deeper low end from the 30

    - My home-cooked "Pentode Vox pre / Tweed Pro power section" amp gets a little different mix ... I run a 25 watt Weber P12N clone (12A150) for deeper lows with a little bit of a mid scoop, and a Weber Silver Bell 15 watter for the midrange emphasis & chime. (This also appeals to my Vox / Tweed hybrid obsession ;) )

You left out 2 Neo speakers? The sound is just as good and much lighter!

I have 2 2x12 cabinets for my AC30 heads. One is a G12H30/alnico Blue and the other is a G12H30/alnico Gold. They sound great but I can't help but wonder if I should swap out the G12H30s for second Blues and Golds. I'll very likely switch to two Blues in the first cabinet.

I run a Z-Best currently and yes the speakers are mixed and matched. Either way I would run a mix and match though.
My Z-Best is stock configuration so it's a V30 + G12H30. I don't know if those are both ceramic though, I think they are.

Maybe someone could help me out, then I could vote

All three of my 2X12 cabs have mixes:
    a) V30 and a G12H55
    b) Eminence Swamp Thang and Wizard
    c) WGS Reaper HP and a Retro 30
I try to select combinations that compliment each other rather than having similar characteristics.......works for me.

My JTM45 runs a Blue and a G12H30 (55Hz). I have no idea if this is better than running two of the same speaker, as it is what I've always run in my 2x12. I will say that it does at least sound better than a single greenback, however (which I found to be too soft in the lows).
