Not censorship, self moderation.
"Your right to swing your fist ends at the tip of my nose."
Swearing just to swear just makes you look stupid. Swear words are the words people use when they don't know the proper words to use.
Hit your thumb with a hammer? Catch a finger in a door? Stub your toe? Let it fly!
Sure, but that doesn't make one way right and one wrong.
That said, many of my best friends are English and Texan.
Life is funny sometimes.
I get tired of seeing this type of ad hominem on Internet forums. Can't we do better than "Oh yeah? Well let's see you do better!" logical fallacies?
It’s hilarious you don’t think that quote applies to your wanting to impose your “morals” on everyone else.
If people assume that I’m stupid, they don’t f@&king know me.
Hence the discussion. Young people are expected to question the world around them, yet older folks are for some reason criticized for questioning the same world? We're all in this together, breathing the same air, and living in the same space. Sometimes you have to keep your bad self in check for the benefit of the greater community.
I love this argument. It's been made in some form at least a dozen times in this thread.
It definitely reflects a social bias. I seriously doubt it reflects reality. At least not in my experience.
You don't know what my morals are. Feel free to add something constructive to the conversation at any time instead of randomly attacking the character of those you disagree with.
A social bias? I don't follow. Anybody can learn proper English. I don't get easily offended, but I still think it makes one look dumb. I used to swear a lot when I was younger and I don't recall it ever impressing the ladies. On the other hand, I've met "ladies" that could cuss a blue streak as well as any sailor or trucker, but they weren't the type of lady I was aiming for.
If this thread were simply a subjective artistic critique, you would have a point.
But that's not the case. Much of the conversation has been a direct effort to deny a successful artist, not through a critique of his art, but with the standard old guy morality BS, tied up with fast-food failure jokes, crap about his ink and cocksure predictions of his future financial ruin.
So yeah. Those people. Show me that you can do better.
My wife is in IT, top of her profession, well educated and very smart. She can cuss a blue streak when the situation calls for it.
And sometimes you have to realize that yelling at clouds doesn't benefit the greater community who wasn't harmed by this so-called foul in the first place.
That will never happen.
Do I really need to quote your post from the previous page where you specifically say this is about morals?
Old guy morality is not what you think it is. This is about appropriate behavior for your surroundings. If you whippersnappers knew half the s*** us old guys did when we were young and full of ourselves you would realize that we're not coming from a place of "old guys who never knew how to live," we're coming from a place of "old guys who have already been there, done that, and learned the lessons that you haven't figured out yet."
I don't really care what you do at this point.
Holy ****, 16 pages because a dude was swearing on tv? Your ears would bleed if you ever came to Denmark and heard how much people swear here.
Happened to see him not knowing who he was. My GF just laughed out loud watching him.
Karaoke battle at the bowling alley.
