Doesn't play well with this system and generates a banned IP notice...very frequently...currently will not let me in the general guitar forum...

My question is regarding 2014 Melody Makers...what is involved in beffing out the haze of the satan finish? Can it be done? I have decided to try to find one of these in my price range...cheap...prefer the red or yellow, but the satin finish looks horrible. Any thoughts?
MOD, please put in correct forum.

Sounds like it's possessed... :Devil My 2003 MM/LP Jr has a satin finish and it ain't gonna buff to a gloss. Seriously OP, I think you'd need to get it refinished which would be a waste of time and money. You can buff the VOS finishes on the historics to a gloss, but not that one....

I recommend dumping AOL and also getting a guitar without a Satan finish. No good can come from either.

OK, aol stays...there are legitimate reasons...no, I don't care to let you know what they are...Now, back to the 2014 MM why can't the finished be buffed to gloss?

Because it's a cheap finish to begin with. It ain't buffing to gloss even with satan's help... You might be able to hit it with steel wool and put a gloss finish on it, but that won't look too good without stripping it all the way to bare wood and spending a lot of time and effort on prep including a sealer and a couple of undercoats. ...

OK, you HAVE to let us know why AOL. I didn't even know they still existed!

I have heard some folks say they buffed satin finished guitars to a 'more glossy' finish. But like many have said, you won't get a high gloss finish. It just won't be as dull as satin is.

Satan may be a lot of things, but dull is not one of them.

Just wanted to find out about buffing the satin finish on 2014 Melody Maker. It appears that no one here thinks it can be done. The aol stuff was just to explain why I posted in the wrong forum. I am waiting for somebody to say I should forget the Melody Maker and buy a Tele...that advice seems to come up no matter what guitar someone asks about...

You should just buy a Tele and be done with it.
