I like NOS JAN Philips 7581A's.
High power and high headroom (which is a good thing in most of my 6L6 amps).
Still fairly priced at less than $100/matched pair, hardly much more than GT 6L6GE's actually.

I am a big fan of JJ and SED 6L6's.

JJ's if I want to add some darkness, SED's if I want a very musical tube.

Since the 7581As sounded good to you, I wouldn't go for the JJs. The SEDs may be a little darker, the Ruby 6L6GCMSTRs would probably be the closest sonically.

I have Bogner's Uberschall - super high gain beast. I know the plate voltage is high on this amp! they use ARS EL-34 OEM tubes, don't know much about these tubes?

What NOS EL-34's (or for that matter - any EL-34) would work well in this amp?? smooth it out a bit?? thanx!

The amp limits the output power. You can put 1,000,000 watt tubes in a 40 watt amp and you may get an extra 2 watts out of it.

That said, several customers have loved the 7581As in their YCVs because of the tonal improvement.
