Any tips on how to hook this thing up if the pedal has a Hammond style enclosure that doesn't allow the battery cable to be exposed without leaving the back off the pedal? I've considered just drilling a hole in the back big enough to run the cable, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Unfortunately, there aren't many options but drill. You can buy just the base of the enclosure thru places like Mouser or Smallbear and drill out an opening for the cable. That way, you still have the original unscathed.
