A friend just sent me a note about this. Very sad. I was thinking the other day about musicians who have recently been on tour possibly being exposed to the virus, especially in Europe. Praying for you Mr. Prine.

We just saw John three times this past December and January. One of these shows was a small acoustic set, and even then (late January), you could tell he was struggling and did not appear to be in the best of health.

We hope all the best for John, though I fear the worst.

They had to bail on a recent European tour so he could come back and have hip surgery, I believe.

Me too. Been a fan since I first heard him in the seventies. Saw him live many times, last time was hard. Hang on if you can John, but it’s ok if you need to go too. Crying here.

Last year, I was on the other side of the earth, a bar in Belfast N. Ireland waiting for a trad session to start. I was a fish out of water but trying to mix with some locals. Somehow a couple of old guys and I discovered we have a mutual love for John Prine. Out of the blue, one of the guys invited me to stay at his house for the rest of my trip! That's how much John Prine means to people the world over.

    Summer's about to end ...

Man, I play mainly rock guitar but I have also played many more acoustic gigs in my 30 plus years of gigging. I have worshipped JP and his talents for most of that time- he is the greatest lyricist IMO for his time ( and mine...). I have been blessed to see him numerous times- my fave is a story I feel sure I have shared here just recently. I was hanging out in the lounge where JP was scheduled to play ( with Todd Snider opening!) a good 2 hours before opening act. I saw a nondescript guy hoisting a big ass brown bag full of beer coming in the front door-glasses, Member's Only jacket...looked a lot like JP. As many were singing along to a JP song playing in the lounge, I realized dude WAS John Prine. I yelled out "HEY JOHN!" He just waved and gave me a thumb's up as he got on the elevator. The man walked across the street and bought beer and no one recognized him...yet his songs stopped a lot more than clocks that night. "Stuck like the tick of a clock
    That's come unwound - again"....

My friend and band mate was the night desk clerk at a Holiday Inn in Tallahassee back in the 90s. John came walking in late one night, tired and hungry. Chazz ordered him a pizza, and John thanked him profusely. He said he just seemed like a completely regular dude. I heard he could be less than pleasant back in his younger, harder drinking days.
