Problems Recording With Reaper (Track Bleed).

So I'm having a really bad problem with my drum track (Ez Drummer) bleeding into my guitar tracks. I usually get my drums done then render it down and open in a new file. Then try and record the guitar dry into a new track. Problem is the guitar track seems to be picking up the drum or metronome if i use one. This wouldn't be to bad but as i record more tracks the drums get louder and also when I apply VST FX to the guitar track to give distortion it distorts the drums that have bleed into the guitar track. Im using a Michael Kelly Guitar into my Alesis multimix mixer with Nu mark monitors(their connected with rca? connectors(the red and black ones...sorry im a noob)) to the mixers 2 track which i think is probably wrong but i dunno how to connect them to the 1/4 monitor jacks(is their an adaptor). Into my laptop via USB and into reaper.

SOrry that might not be the clearest explanation but any help would be appreciated.

ALso I wouldn't mind ay reccomedation on how to get an A7X CHapter 4 esque sound using plugins if anyone has any ideas.

It sounds like you are recording direct...meaning you're not micing a guitar amp at all? And the drum tracks are in Reaper and nowhere else? Are the drums loud in the room when recording your guitar parts? If so, perhaps the guitar pickups are picking up the drums? You should be monitoring in headphones while recording. If monitoring in phones doesn't fix the issue, the "bleed" must be happening in the Alesis mixer somehow. Maybe an FX send from the drums is being assigned to the guitar somehow? Not familiar with that mixer but most mixers have some form of bussing that can cause stuff like this. Or, the mixer's channel isolation could be terrible and the hot drum signal is somehow coupling to the guitar (long shot). Of course Reaper has all kinds of crazy routing possibilities as well, so look there too. Good luck!

Thanks mate. Iv got a feelong it is the alesis as headphones,turning down guitar output, recording away from the monitors etc dont help but I have no idea how to fix it.

If you can describe your entire signal path we might be able to help you out more, but I know it's a lot to type and words aren't the best way to describe things like this. Also, have you tried asking on the Reaper forum? Even though I doubt the issue is related to Reaper, those guys are super-helpful about stuff like this and there's more traffic there than here.

You're somehow sending the track you're monitoring (drums) to the input of the track you're recording, along with the guitar.

Check the settings of your interface, the problem is most likely a setting there.

I might have put up something similar had this prob for a while usually end up getting frustrated.

Edit: i thought prob was solved but has come back.

Would there be a way of monitoring back through headphone plugged into my laptop just for the purposes of timekeeping?

Iv found a workaround that Im fairly satisfied with. When recording i change my outputs and use headphones straight from laptop(which aren't giving me a bad sound tbh). Its just a bit fiddly and involves a bit back and forth however it also means no chance of any track bleed.

However if anyone could recommend a single track recorder that i would e able to use with my monitors(which use rca cable i think theyr called(the red and black/white ones)) that would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
