Steve was likely Steve Kiraly, one of the head engineers at ProCo. He sadly passed way not long ago. Glad I got to know him.

Favorite distortion pedal ever is a first year green circuit board fabled woodcutter Turbo Rat. Thing sounds incredible and will never leave, but it sounds exactly the same as my Turbo rat from the 90s which will also never leave. That being said, RIP woodcutter. Your little boxes are still making beautiful noise.

I have bunches of Rats, but my only Woodcutter is a first year Turbo Rat...outstanding one indeed!

Nine has NP stamped in red letters. No tape on the pots. 90’s Rat 2. It beat out a big box reissue so it’s in the winners bracket.

You didn't tell us what your musical styles are. Are you planning to use it as a gain pedal in front of a clean amp, or keep the distortion on the pedal low and use it in front of a dirty amp as a boost?

Mick Ronson era Bowie, I'm assuming?

I think a standard Proco Rat, possibly a WF or big box reissue. At the very least, a Rat with an LM308. If you like to be able to tweak it, look for something like a VFE Alpha Dog or Blakemore ROUS.

All era Bowie, tbh. Ronson was my major inspiration but I like the stuff Slick and Belew did, too. Not so much the album work with Belew but for sure when he was on the "Stage" tour and musical director for the "Sound and Vision" tour.

I'll definitely try and get some time to try the ones you mentioned. Many thanks. :aok

Awesome dude. By the way, my first comment was a quote from KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park.

I sold a 86 Woodcutter and kept the 86 that said Brenda's Husband. Thought it sounded better.

Bumping just to add another call sign: a '90 Turbo Rat from Circus Freak. Sounds killer with a bass!

My '92 Turbo Rat says "Grape" . . . and it rocks. Hard. I love it!

I own two 87 RAT2s made by Woodcutter and they are my favorite RATs. Like em more than my 86 smallbox but it's really close.
