This thread is great! Like others, I pulled out my old RAT today, opened it up — "Hands Off Andy."

Now I'm gonna plug it in and let 'er rip...

Garage sale? C'mon bruh, we know you paid $250 for that on Reverb. Still, a good find.

Wow I hadn’t seen a small box with a Rat2 PCB before. Sorta like the second gen Vintage Rat. Not surprising though. Maybe they were out of the BF boards and subbed this instead (minus the LED stuff).

You guys are making me feel bad for having a Chinese Rat now......

I thought it was cool because the first three digits of the serial are also the area code from my hometown..... but that's just not as cool as "The Woodcutter" or "Brenda's Husband".

My early 90's Rat 2 is a "Grape" if I remember correctly.

I A/B-Ed this to my 97 big box RI....the 88 sounds WAY BETTER!! No competition. It is borderline of having as good tone as my V3 OCD!!!

    It's still pretty cool, though.

The date on mine is my birthday, I had the pedal at least 25 years before I knew that. Though it was pretty cool.

After looking closer at the pedal, I see that there is some engraving/writing on the sides of the case. It appears to be from a band. Like it was sent back to the factory after a test/demo?

Hi guys! I´m a happy owner of a Big Box Rat!. I was curious about what was inside the box and lot of questions began to emerge! Let me show you a guts picture:

I think that it´s from 96 due to the pots. The chip (it´s not very clear in the photo)is a LM308AN.
I´m not an electronics expert but when I had a close look to the pcb I began wondering... why the PCB has parts labeled and no components mounted?

The pcb was designed to be used in several different versions of the Rat circuit, and sometimes components are not used so their positions are left empty on the pcb.

R14 is the current limiting resistor for the LED, but since there is no LED, it is not used.

R15 was only used on the Rat2 and Turbo Rat as a load across the volume pot.

R13, D4, D5 and Q2 are the Rat bypass circuit that allows a DPDT to switch the LED (but not needed since there is no LED). Most recent pedals use a 3PDT with dedicated switch poles for the LED.

R12 is for a pulldown resistor that was not used on the Big Box reissue.

I'm surprised that there was no R16, which was used on the Turbo Rat to bias the output buffer.

The layout of parts and their numerical designations have been changed repeatedly over the years.

    Best regards, Jack

Just got my Proco Rat blue card (Model/Serial Number/Date Purchased) wet and torn.
    I'm freaking out.

Could somebody scan it for me? Or maybe a take a nice straight picture of it?
    Thanks

(if somebody wants, I can scan this rat sheet I have)
