Prog guys, what kind of guitar do you prefer for playing those tones?

Im interested to know what guitars you think suit tight prog tones. I have just doscovered (after thinking my pedals were to blame) that my MIM Standard tele just does not gell for those tones.

So, single coil for you or humbuckers? les Pauls/PRS or strats/teles etc?

I use mostly 2HB guitars either my R8 or Explorer (with Fralin high output pickups) - The Fralins are extremely punchy and, well worth the cost.

Definitely humbuckers. I use either a PAF style equipped LP Custom or a Superstrat like a Charvel SoCal w.a DiMarzio ToneZone and get those heavy, singing tones.

Heavy mahogany guitar with a humbucker in the bridge. I think that works whether it's a HSS strat-type or a H-H LP/PRS type.

Personally I prefer the HSS because I like how the single coils clean it up a bit in the forward 4 switch positions while still having that humbucker in the bridge.
