PRS pricing question

I'm in the market for a new guitar and a few PRS models interest me, e.g. DGT and McCarty 594. I haven't shopped PRS in many years -- what should I expect to be able to negotiate as a discount off of listed price? Is 20% realistic?

Thx! Sean

That would all depend on the retailer selling it and your relationship with them as a buyer. That said, 20% is a substantial discount from any seller, on any guitar. I'd be doubtful of getting that much off.

20% of MAP is doable if you find the right dealer.

Those are the two best selling models from PRS right now, and supply is having a problem keeping up with supply - I'd say if you have a parking space with your name on it outside your favorite dealer, you may get something approaching a 20% discount - failing that personal reserved parking space status with the dealer, I'd be prepared to pay MAP or maybe just a little less... any discounts on those models will depend heavily on your relationship with the dealer.

20% off MAP is possible on old stock. 10% is typical on regular stock.
594 and to a lesser extent DGT are pretty good selling models at the moment.

There is always a deal to be had, you simply need to work it. No dealer wants to sit on inventory.

At least one PRS dealer was doing 25% off around Black Friday, including 594s. That's probably the best case scenario. At some point PRS will come out with the next big thing, and the 594s will become easier to deal on.

Check the VintageRocker PRS forums for good deals on used PRSi from knowledgeable owners. I agree that used is your best option. There are guys there that buy several guitars of a new model and then flip them almost immediately at a good discount, barely if at all played.

Moore Music had a 20% off code for everything, including PRS DGTs and 594s. But yeah, those are gonna be the hardest models to get a deal on right now. Even used, 594s are actually retaining a lot of value, which is not the usual case for PRS.

I was offered 20% off MAP on a 594 when I was looking. Ended up buying a used Wood Library Model that was in perfect shape. I was shocked how it looked brand new in every respect when I received it. I bought it off Dave's Guitars and paid just under 40% off map. I'm not sure any gets any better than that....

Used DGT. That's what I'd do. Good luck either way.

Not sure I would ever buy a "new" PRS. Even at 20-25% off MAP. Just to many at killer used prices since like others have stated, they just do not hold their value very well at all.
