Hey Folks -

I was yakking w/ Bill Asher on the phone yesterday - short conversation as he's really busy these days (GRIN - beats sitting around, eh?). Bill tells me that Willcutt Guitars is now a dealer for the Ultra T model he makes. Pretty cool news.

Here's a link to the Asher page on the Willcutt site. What a beauty this guitar is. I played this one at the Santa Monica Vintage Guitar Show a few weeks ago, and as I've written before, I'm really impressed with these Ultra T's that Bill Asher makes. They're really cool guitars, quite beautiful, they sound and play great, there are tons of options available for custom builds and the fit and finish is outstanding.

Anyhow, feast your eyes!

Thanks, Dana O.

PS: Mods - please don't hesitate to move this to the Builder's and Retailer's Forum if that's where it should go. I'm just trying to let folks know that they can now get Asher Ultra T's through Willcutt, but I'm not involved with either party except as a fan.

Asher's are just gorgeous... would love to play one someday.
I'm kind of a 'traditional' guy with respect to guitars - Teles, Les Pauls and ES-335's, LP Juniors and Specials, the occasional Strat (GRIN), the occasional ES-175, like that. The first couple of times I saw a pic of an Asher Ultra T, I sorta passed it over. I just saw a diagonally stretched Tele style body and didn't really pay attention after that.

Then my pal Pete got an Ultra, and I went and played it one night at his house, actually, the night he brought it home. Asher had just put the guitar together that afternoon - it had maybe an hour of playing time on it. I was completely floored - not only do they look great, but the playability and tone are 'freakin dazzling. The combination of the Asher/ Pete Biltoft pickups, especially the neck pickup, with the Tonestyler treble cut pre-set, make for a huge array of tones, right at your fingertips.

I've been really surprised at how much I like the Ultra T. I find them to be excellent gigging instruments - there are so many sounds and tones available, and they're easy to find and dial in. The neck pickup is bigger sounding than a traditional Tele neck pickup, and IMHO, that adds a lot of tonal options without seeming to take any away, it seems to me. Still gets that great "in-between' sound in the middle position.

Anyhow, probably I'm more of a solid Ash body kind of guy (did I mention my sort of traditional tastes?), but I think this particular Ultra T is beautiful, and it plays and sounds great.

Thanks, Dana O.

Dang it Dana! I have been quietly watching that guitar for over a week! Now you go and tell everyone about it! No fair! If it disappears before I can buy it I'm blamin' your post! ;)

So what does that rotary switch do? I can find no explanation anywhere for the control layout, not even on the Asher website. Anyone know?

Hey Tone Disciple -

Sorry to be a bit of a spoiler - I'm just trying to let folks know about these cool guitars. It's an amazing guitar, and it looks totally rad! I hope you're able to grab it!

Bill Asher answers your question about the Tonestyler knob in the other current Asher guitar thread about an Ultra T on the road w/ Jackson Browne played by fab guitarist and TGP member Mark Goldenberg.

He talks about the Tonestyler knob in the 5th post down - Here's the link:

Great looking 'new but still retro' looking guitars. The blond one that MG is playing in the other thread is a beauty. I'd love to play one.

Dana's post of this link was just the push I needed to go ahead and snag this guitar. It was the right color for the red guitar collection! Should ship this week. I will keep you posted.

Yes! I am pretty excited about getting it. I had to check in with Eric to make sure the neck was not too thin and get some of the specs, but it sounds like it will be a good fit with the rest of my guitars. Seriously though - you pushed me over the edge on this one - I just could not let it get away!
