Pull the trigger on a used Super Reverb?

Guy's asking $1100 for a mid 60s BF Super Reverb (don't know the actual age). Cosmetically, it's about a 5...which for a 40yo amp isn't bad. Faceplate has some dings, and the speaker grill is "pushed/bent in" where it looks slightly concave at the midpoint of where the grill meets the faceplate. Tolex and grill are in ok shape with no significant tears, gouges, or fraying. There is some dust and grime in the speaker baffle and the speakers (appear to be original Jensen alnicos) are aged. Knobs are dirty/dusty, and some of the pots are scratchy and loose. But, overall the sound is amazing.

Thoughts?

if the reverb and vibrato work i'd say its probably a pretty good deal. cosmetically imperfect blackface fender combos are still pretty sought-after.

Who cares about the cosmetics? It's a freaking Super Reverb.
That price is stupid low when you think about the fact that it's about what you'd pay for a FRAKKING RE-ISSUE.

If it sounds like it should, its the best amp in existence . . . IMO
if it doesn't sound like it should it could be a long time till you track down what it is missing or what is wrong - if you like doing that yourself, I'd say get it.

I bought a '68 Super for way cheap that someone had "black-faced" cosmetically and with improvements . . . I spent a long time getting back to Drip-edge magnificence!!
Still could use a tad of something but even so, now its truly great,

. . . but I love the hunt

I'd grab that it in a heartbeat. I love my '67. It's in great shape but if I sold it I'd want twice that price.

Buy it.
It's a great amp, and you won't ever worry about putting scratches or dings in it. Cosmetics don't matter at such a good price.

Do you want a bedroom amp to look at or a gig amp?
There's no amp that does the SR thing as well as a SR.
Get it.

I just got my '67 back from Tim at Superfine Amps and man.....it just f'ing smokes. Yes, they're a little heavy (more awkward than heavy really) but there is just SO much sound in there (especially with the alnico speakers). And a little trick I've learned (which works on any Fender type amp..especially my Rambler) is to turn all of the tone knobs to zero, the volume fairly high and then bring each up (starting with the treble) until you hear sound. It really makes for a great low volume tone which you can use with any pedal. A properly maintained Super is a great freaking amp for any type of guitar.
